HOW MADONNA FOUND HER JESUS

NY Post

She's always liked them hot, young and Latin, but Madonna's latest boy toy has another special charm -- he was a Kabbalist before they even met.

Jesus Luz, 22, immersed himself in the religion while he was still a struggling model in Rio de Janeiro. Since the late 1990s, Madonna has been an avid follower of the movement, which stems from Jewish mysticism and equates God to a ray of light.

"Madonna must have thought she met God when she found Jesus," said a Kabbalah devotee in New York, noting that "Jesus Luz" translates from Portuguese as "Jesus Light."

Leonardo Reis, manager of the Kabbalah Center in Rio, helped Luz with his studies starting in July 2008, six months before Jesus met Madonna.

"All I can say to you is that Madonna is really, really happy with Jesus," Reis said. "When she found out he was into Kabbalah, they really started to hit it off."

Reis organized a special Shabbat dinner for the couple and their friends after they met at a Rio photo shoot last December. The dinner, complete with lit candles and guests clothed in white, was held at sunset in Madonna's luxe suite at the Copacabana Palace Hotel with its stunning views of the Atlantic.

Spirituality has always been a part of Luz's life. His mother, Cristiane Regina da Silva, 37, is a member of the "Evangelicals," a growing Protestant cult movement in Brazil. His father, an administrator at a public hospital in the Rio suburbs, says he decided to name his son Jesus because he admired the philosophy of Christ.

But four years after baby Jesus was born, the family split. Cristiane, a colorist at a tony Ipanema salon, raised Luz on her own in a gritty part of downtown Rio.

Still, she was determined to give him the kind of life she never had. By the time he was an adolescent, Cristiane managed to save enough money to enroll him in a private prep school and encouraged his modeling career.

Luz had star quality from a young age. At his prep school, girls sought out his autograph because of his intense blue eyes, said a former girlfriend.

Those eyes must have also been a hit with photographer Steven Klein, who chose Luz's picture from a stack of portfolio shots provided by model agent Sergio Mattos.

According to Mattos, Klein offered Luz and two other male models $100 each for a two-day shoot in Rio for W magazine. The models didn't know they would be working alongside Madonna until they arrived at the session in December.

After the first day of shooting, Luz went home to his mother in such a good mood that he insisted on celebrating.

"The first picture session with Madonna resulted in his coming home really happy," said Cristiane in an interview with a Brazilian magazine. "He even opened a bottle of champagne."

But not everyone in Luz's circle was joining in the fun. Shortly after the W shoot, Jesus dumped girlfriend Krishna Siqueira, a sultry model who introduced him to Kabbalah when they started dating last July.

"My mother gave Jesus letters of the Kabbalah for him to meditate on," said Siqueira, who like many of Luz's friends lost touch with the model after Madonna whisked him to New York this year.

Luz's move to the Big Apple has paid off. The boy toy, who is also devoted to macrobiotic cuisine and is fluent in English, is now a high-profile Ford Model who recently shot a Dolce & Gabbana's menswear campaign for fall/winter 2009-2010.

Although Ford Models refused to say how much Luz makes per gig, a Brazilian newspaper reported that he was commanding a $100,000 fee to appear at a local fashion show shortly after he started dating Madonna. Luz's earnings have also enabled him to finance his mother's recent move into an upscale apartment in Ipanema.

In New York, Luz is now a regular at hotspots like the Waverly Inn and earlier this month escorted Madonna to the Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute Ball, considered the city's society event of the year.

He's friends with Marc Jacobs and the famous designer's Brazilian companion, Lorenzo Martone, who has become a mentor to the young model. In March, Jacobs wrote a letter to US authorities to help Luz obtain a work permit here.

Every Saturday morning, Madonna and Luz attend services at the Kabbalah Centre in Midtown, and he spends his free time jogging in Central Park, reading Deepak Chopra and attending a school for DJs, friends say.

"His passion is electronic music," his best friend in Rio told The Post. "He is really working hard to become a DJ."

Luis Heitor Luz, Jesus' 46-year-old father, told The Post his son is firmly committed to the pop star. "I know he loves Madonna, and I wouldn't be surprised if they get married," he said. "People speak about the difference in their ages but this is nonsense. I was 23 and his mother was 14 when Jesus was born."

Although it was recently reported that Madonna and Jesus planned to wed in a Kabbalah commitment ceremony, a spokeswoman for the pop queen last week flatly denied the rumors.

But in Rio, a Kabbalist who knows the couple said, "There is no need for marriage. They are already spiritually joined."

Mina on Madonna

Italian Vanity Fair via Madonna Tribe

"Madonna is such a powerful corporation. She writes, she sings, produces and controls everything she does. She has all my respect.
There's no mercy in show business, and still she's able to do what she wants and with tremendous results. My daughter Benedetta is crazy for her and keeps hammering me with "listen to this.. listen to that... And though it was a bit forced on me, I now have my own true knowledge of 'Madonna culture'. Hats off to her!"

Dona Summer on Madonna

Sun-Sentinel

"I was sitting around thinking I should do something. I was thinking about design school. A friend said, 'Are you out of your mind? Do an album.' But I like privacy and I like my space. I like being with my family. You have to be in the right frame of mind. You can't be like 'don't touch me' to your fans or saying 'I don't want to sign autographs.' I think I was exhausted for a lot of years. I have to take my hat off to people like Madonna. They keep doing it."

5,000 more Sofia tickets to go on sale

The Sofia Echo via Madonna Tribe

The organisers of the Madonna show have decided to allocate 5000 additional tickets which will be released on general sale May 19. Reportedly, the demand for the precious tickets has been so great that a decision was made to release a further batch. There has been no comment from the organisers whether the increase of capacity will bear on the safety of the people who are in the pit.

Tickets can now be purchased nationwide from Ticketpro or online, at www.ticketpro.com

When Madonna first announced at the beginning of May that she will perform in Sofia, the news became a complete sensation.

Madonna’s first ever concert in Bulgaria will be on Saturday August 29 2009 in Sofia at 8pm at Vassil Levski National Stadium. The concert, one of the entertainment highlights of the year, is expected to draw tens of thousands of fans not just from Bulgaria but from all over South East Europe, proving a stiff test for Bulgarian police.

The most expensive tickets, for those seeking to stay inside the Golden Circle just metres from Madonna, will cost 200 leva. People willing to stand in front of the stage will pay 150 leva.
The cheapest tickets, in the pit, cost 100 leva. Seat prices will vary between 110, 135 and 165 leva depending on location.

Madonna’s concert in Bulgaria is part of her Sticky & Sweet Tour in Europe. She will reportedly arrive with a crew of 250 people, and enough equipment to make her concert the biggest show Bulgarian fans have ever seen.

Oakenfold: 'Madonna songs cutting edge'

Digital Spy

Paul Oakenfold has described the new material he has recorded with Madonna as "cutting edge sounds combined with classic Madonna".

The pair spent a week together in the studio last month producing songs for the 'Miles Away' singer's upcoming greatest hits package.

Oakenfold confirmed that the new material will be previewed when he opens for Madonna on the second leg of her 'Sticky And Sweet' world tour, which kicks off in London on July 4.

The DJ will also play at the Wireless Festival before supporting Madonna on European dates in Italy, France, Spain, Germany, Russia and Eastern Europe.

His new album Pop Killer is expected to be released in 2010 and features collaborations with the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ryan Tedder and Ce-Lo.

Two Classics are back!

Madonna Tribe

The extension of the Madonna tour is about to start in less than two months and here at MadonnaTribe we've heard a few things buzzing around.
Rehearsals are planned to take place in New York and starting at the beginning of June. They will approximatively go on for a month before flying to London for the premiere on July 4th.

As for the changes in the Sticky & Sweet set list a couple of beloved old classics will be replacing two songs of the 2008 lineup. The songs considered at the moment are the 1983 First Album classic hit Holiday, making its comeback in a Madonna tour and Dress You Up, the old fan favourite from Like A Virgin!

The inclusion of such classic songs will surely convince the people who were unsure about this tour extension that Madonna is once again trying something new, by strengthening her already successful show of 2008, reinventing it by adding more fan favourite oldies but goodies!

3,000 more tickets for Werchter go on sale

RTL via Madonna Tribe

Ticktes for the Sticky & Sweet Tour concert of Saturday, July 11 at the Werchter festival site sold out in no time, but this came as no surprise considering that the show marks the first Madonna live appearance in the Belgium.

What can be more interesting to hear for the Madonna fans - especially those who did not manage to grab a ticket when they went on sale - is that the production team paid a visit on site last week, giving them a chance to carefully examine the layout plans.
As a result of this site survey a number of entries previously reserved to the production, plus a number of unpaid reservations tickets have now been released, making a total of 3,000 tickets being available to purchase.

Tickets are now available via www.proximusgoformusic.be and the Proximus Go For Music hotline.

Live Nation Inc. (LYV) Q1 2009 Earnings Call Transcript

Seeking Alpha

Good afternoon everyone and welcome to our 2009 first quarter conference call. Our first quarter results were in line with our expectations on our key metrics that indicate that we are on track to deliver our 2009 plan. Our first quarter is historically the slowest period of the year but an important time as it provides a window into how the full year will end up.

(...) We have a very strong line up this year. U2's 360 Tour has generated incredible demand, selling 2.5 million tickets. Madonna's extended leg in Europe has been another sell out smash and artists such as Nickleback, AC/DC, Coldplay, Aerosmith, Jimmy Buffet and the Jonas Brothers are well on track to sell out some strong shows.

Q: Obviously some bands are selling well and some others, and always the case and you've obviously got a long history of knowing how different bands sell in different venues and get a sense of how to price them on the guarantee side as well. Are you seeing in any cases, do you have any flexibility in any cases with some tours that are simply not performing as you'd hoped? Do you have any kind of out or flexible clauses with artists on the guarantee to sort of the bang it down a little bit if certain thresholds aren't met?

Generally you have a contract with the band, you have a contract. But we both have the same motive. A band does not want to get on stage and have empty seats. So I would say to you that 99% of the time, if a tour goes on sale and it's not pacing well, you are sitting with the manager and agent coming up with creative ways to sell more tickets. Reduce the prices, do more promotion, excite the sale, and that end.

The good news is this. The reason we planned, and that's why I don't want any of the Q1 decline in North America to come across as consumer purchase behavior versus self implied. We knew that we had a really strong year in North America last year. We know that there's a certain amount of shows we need to fill the pipe, and then some of the shows above and beyond that are the gravy that help you deliver some higher profit or sometimes bring down your profit.

We went into 2009 with a very purposeful disciplined plan that said, let's not try to grow market share in North America this year. Let's go after the for sure bands, the for sure business. We'll leave a few bands on the table. We'll let Age's and others book a few that we might have historically chased harder.

So we purposely went out this year to say we'll fill the pipe to the level that we know we can drive our operating income. We will not go after all and every band. We'll reduce our risk and we'll go after the more for sure bands.

So we're sitting here right now and the good news I can tell, we're not sitting here right now with any tours or any shows of magnitude that are dogs, that are going to take a hit on our P&L in any big sense.

We've got a pretty solid line up of superstars and downward and we're happy with the level we have right now and we don't see any big losers this year that will impact our operating income.

Q: (...) Are you just selling the tickets a little earlier this year or are you just understating that you're going to have a strong summer.

A bit of both. I've kind of given you guidance which I don't typically do on where we think we'll end up on attendance by the end of the year. So you can look at our historic 52 million tickets last year or all in and figure out where we'll be.

We built a plan this year that said the economic crisis has to affect you somewhere. We know though that we had a super strong slate because of the stadiums and Madonna and U2 and our festival business is on fire in Europe which is a really early on sale. So we knew International was going to have a strong year, so we knew we could look for growth from international.

We knew North America we had a super year last year in our amphitheaters and we didn't want to chase that exact market share in some of those shows and get ourselves into any risky shows to try to match that exact number.

(...) So we're just looking at the strong on sales. There's a little bit of head room. In this business it's all about there's not bad bands, there's just bad deals. So when you have a strong solid plan, you don't have to then chase a lot of extra which sometimes can get you in trouble.

Q: As far as the disclosure on the Artist Nation, do you plan on doing some type of metrics and judge how the Artist Nation's doing in the future?

Absolutely we will. Probably towards the end of the year, Q3 or Q4 probably. I think once we have the entire Madonna tour cycle wrapped up, the U2 won't be wrapped by then but it will be in full motion. JZ will be in; hopefully Shakira will be staring to go out. So I think by the end of the year we'll be able to talk about how those bands did not only from a touring but a sponsorship, accessory sales and all of the pieces of how they all added up against our investment.

Madonna, Africa and Child Mortality

Huffington Post

The problem is straightforward: more than nine million children die each year in Africa. That is the number of people in the entire state of New Jersey.

African kids die from infectious diseases such as HIV, TB, malaria, respiratory illnesses, diarrhea, worms, parasites, and vaccine-preventable diseases, malnutrition and -- far too often -- during childbirth itself.

In an exclusive interview with HuffPo, Sonia Ehrlich Sachs, M.D., M.P.H. spoke to me about Africa, child mortality, and an intelligent, charismatic women who has learned much about both: Madonna.

2009-05-15-Malawi1.jpg
Millennium Villages help care for children in Africa.

Dr. Sonia Sachs is a public health specialist and serves as the health coordinator for the Millennium Villages Project at the Earth Institute at Columbia University.

Dr. Sonia Sachs is a public health specialist and serves as the health coordinator for the Millennium Villages Project at the Earth Institute at Columbia University.

She is also married to another brilliant thought leader and global citizen, Prof. Jeffry Sachs, Director of the Earth Institute, and Special Advisor to the U.N. Secretary General on the Millennium Development Goals.

Sonia is the pediatrician who was with Madonna in Malawi when the singer met one-year old David Banda. Sonia explained to me that the evening David left the orphanage to spend his first night with Madonna in a hotel in Lilongwe, he was very ill and could have died, as did his other siblings before him. She credits the entertainer for saving the child's life.

I had not realized that Madonna's project, Raising Malawi, was helping to support one of Jeff's Millennium Villages near Lilongwe. That was one of the reasons Sonia was with Madonna on the trip.

2009-05-15-Malawi2.jpg
David Banda with his adoptive mother, Madonna.

"David would have died that evening or the following day if it were it not for Madonna. I can tell you with certainty that he would have died had he stayed in the orphanage," Sonia told me.

"The evening David was handed over to Madonna, he had a very high fever and was in acute respiratory distress -- meaning he had difficulty breathing."

"We took him to a private clinic, where a colleague and I examined him carefully, took a chest X-ray, diagnosed his respiratory infection, and treated him immediately with an inhaler, and intramuscular antibiotics. Lower respiratory infections like pneumonia are a common killer of so many children in Africa every year."

As founder of Orphans International Worldwide, I have experienced the death of one of our children in Haiti. The pain of losing a child is indescribable.

Last fall, Sonia presented to our Orphans International Worldwide Congress -- held at N.Y.U. Medical School -- on the grim story of African child mortality. She explained about preventable and treatable conditions such as extreme nutrient deficiencies, infectious diseases and unsafe childbirth.

The deaths of African children are all about food, water, and cooking stoves. Sonia explained that there is usually no public health system in place to address this tragic litany of otherwise very approachable issues.

Simple, non-clinical health interventions make a big difference in saving lives, Sonia believes. Improved nutrition through school meals, better cooking stoves to reduce open fire and indoor air pollution, clean water, mosquito bed nets, and de-worming are all essential, interventions needed but not affordable by people living in extreme poverty.

Through her work, Sonia has come to know Madonna a little bit. "I have found Madonna to be an impressively solid person dedicated to her children and to the welfare of thousands of neglected orphans in Malawi."

2009-05-15-Malawi3.jpg

A Millennium Village doctor examining a child.

Sonia has personally witnessed Madonna's compassion and motherly instincts more than once.

In Malawi some people practice witchcraft. On occasion, a boy's entire genitalia are removed by villagers based on ancient superstition. One little boy Madonna met had been so mutilated he could not stop wetting himself. The physical and emotional suffering was unbearable.

Madonna held the boy and pledged to care for him, which she has done to this day by looking after his medical and educational needs. Thanks to Madonna, the boy continues to improve.

Children learning in a Millennium Village in Africa.

Madonna somehow speaks to the children of the world. From Africa to Asia and the Americas. My own teenage son Mathew -- adopted at the age of ten months from Indonesia -- has informed me that if I ever meet Madonna without him, he will disown me.

More from the interview with Jesus' dad

More from the interview Jesus' dad, Hector Luis Pinto da Luz, gave to Quem:

'He is very happy and this ceremony would just confirm that.'
He was replying to reports the couple are due to take part in a Kabbalah commitment ceremony in New York as soon as this weekend.
In the new interview with Brazil's Quem magazine, Luiz Hector gave his son's relationship with Madonna the seal of approval.

My understanding is that this is just a consequence of what is happening. He is already living with her.

'I don't know if there will be an actual wedding. From what I have read there could be a sort of ritual, but I don't know Kabbalah... to know if it's valid and legal.'

In the interview Luiz Heitor also revealed Jesus is getting on very well with Madonna's three children.

'She has young children and he helps out with them,' he said.

'My son is charismatic, he likes children, he has an excellent relationship with her children. He plays football with them.'

But he flatly denied stories the pop star is paying $1,000 a week in English lessons for Jesus - and that she controls his phone usage.

He said: 'Those stories are lies, made up when the press have no information. He already spoke English long before meeting her, when he lived with an aunt in the US.

'It's also a lie that he can't speak on his cell phone near her.'

In fact, he says even he has spoken to Madonna and she was very pleasant.

'We've already spoken on the phone, in French because I don't speak English fluently, and she seemed like a normal person,' he said.

'She is calm, feminine - I didn't feel any harshness. She was very polite.'

And he adds that his son is not one to be easily taken by money and glamour.

'Obviously, he likes what is good, but he is not one to be impressed by materialism,' said Luiz Heitor.

Madonna at the Costume Institute Gala with Kanye, his girl, Justin T and Jessica B

From Amber Rose's Twitter:

Antboogie's Tour Video Diary: Jumping Rope

Here's the second video from Madonna's dancer, Antboogie, from his Sticky & Sweet Tour Diary:

Liz Smith on Why Madonna wore antlers to the Met Costume Gala and Jesus

wowowow.com

Sorry to oppress you about our friend Madonna but she seems to me to be one of rare ones making any news these days. (Falling off horses, trying to adopt impoverished children; it’s still front-page fodder.)

So I just had to ask a member of her inner circle: What was up with Madonna’s wacky outfit at the Metropolitan Museum Costume Gala last week? (Were those antlers on her head, or antennae to contact aliens?) Especially since she attended with her friend, young Jesus Luz, who looked sensational and was wearing a traditional black-tie tuxedo. The answer came: “Liz, she is never going to be what some of her fans want – a woman in classic glamour couture, all the time. She is on the edge, fashionwise, and every other way. Look, she was having fun that night. She wasn’t taking herself or her clothes seriously. Given her workload and a personality that never lets her rest, we’re always happy when she just has fun!”

I did put up online Robin Platzer’s incredible photograph from that night of 22-year-old Jesus with an accompanying comment on his good looks. The response to this picture was incredible! I think on the wowOwow.com site we had only one woman who bounded in to say we should be more serious and not waste everybody’s time. (Along with somebody asking if I was “on Madonna’s payroll.” Hmmmm … I guess I’m on Dolly Parton’s payroll, too!)

But I very much enjoy the beauty of young Mr. Luz. And Madonna’s own PR rep, the perspicacious Liz Rosenberg, went out of her way to e-mail me, after she saw my Flash: “Trust me, what you wrote about this heartthrob is a total understatement. This is truly the most gorgeous boy I have ever seen in my life and you can say you were the first to write about him because, baby, he’s a star!” This from a woman who reps not only Madonna, but Cher, Stevie Nicks, Michael BublĂ©, Josh Groban – she knows from stars.

So, again, we give you Jesus Luz. Man of the hour. And man of Madonna’s hour!

MADONNA DUMPS YANKEES FOR METS

Page Six

MADONNA is so over Alex Rodriguez she's even dumped the Yankees and is now rooting for the Mets. Madge took her kids, Lourdes, Rocco and David, to see the Mets play at Citi Field on Mother's Day, and just to rub salt in A-Rod's wounds, brought new flame Jesus Luz. The group sat in Jerry Seinfeld's seats with Anderson Cooper, whom they'd partied with Saturday night at the Monkey Bar. There, Madonna was clucked over by Clive Davis, Nikki Haskell, Thom Browne and flamboyant furrier Dennis Basso, who turned to Davis and said, "Even I'd [bleep] Madonna!"

Madonna fans looking to buy concert tickets through ticket-vendors Lippupiste and Lippupalvelu faced jammed phone lines and glitches with internet booking services on Monday.

Last week, concert orginisers announced that a further 5,000 tickets would be released on Monday for megastar Madonna’s summer concert in Helsinki. Two thousand of the tickets were for the best seats at the concert stadium.

Tickets for Madonna’s concert went on sale at Lippupiste ticket outlets on Monday morning. Ticket prices range from 99 to 119 euros. Concert organisers decided to release additional tickets due to exceptionally high demand.

Madonna Switches Teams, Shows up at NY Mets Game

Cover Awards

It looks like one time Yankee (A-Rod) fan Madonna is officially switching teams.

The queen of pop showed up and created quite a stir at Citi Field, the new home of the New York Mets.

Who was with her?

She was celebrating Mother’s Day with her children.

Fans couldn’t get enough of her and were snapping pics as Madge hid under her baseball cap.

She was in the ultra luxury box of comedian Jerry Seinfeld, who appeared to be enjoying the new stadium. Also in Jerry’s seats? CNN’s Anderson Cooper!

What singletons can learn from Madonna

Times

...I say "ficando", you say "hooking up", she says "dating for the past year"

As ever, Madonna finds herself at the cutting edge of sexual politics. Not by being called Madonna and having the chutzpah to sleep with a chap called Jesus (although, top marks for best fetish yet). No, her Madgesty scores zeitgeist points for the terms under which she is sleeping with said Brazilian; namely, by imposing no terms whatsoever.

When news of the affair broke, a Brazilian website reported: “Everyone knows they are ficando – a Portuguese expression that means they are kissing and doing other things, but without any obligation of being faithful or getting into a relationship.” There is no direct translation of the term ficando because what it describes is merely the single status quo. I am ficando, you are ficando, who among us is not?

For single relationships present less an etiquette problem than an issue of basic definition. Time was, when the classic scenario involved waking up with someone, and, if you were still waking up with them a few months later, you were “going out”. These days, you could be hooking up, friends that shag, about to tie the knot, or anything in between pretty much indefinitely. Those unsophisticated enough to seek to impose clarity will be deemed bullying, crassly naive.

The problem with such situations is that, as the Gauls have it, there is one who kisses, one who offers the cheek. Or, in British parlance: there will always be a stalker and a stalkee.

Spotted: Madonna at the Fischerspooner concert - 07/05/09

M, with Jesus, Lourdes and Klein enjoying Fischerspooner's show at the balcony of the Music Hall of Williamsburg Thursday night.

NY Magazine reports: "Madonna was in attendance (hanging off of some man, Lourdes knows who). Spooner, surely to her dismay, made Madonna’s presence known — probably mischievously, as he also asked, seemingly with mock surprise, where she’d gone to once the set was over. Madge ducked out after a few songs."

Video: Meeting Madonna’s New Neighbors

NY Magazine

Ever since we heard the news that Madonna was going to move to East 81st Street, a part of the Upper East Side that some snooty neighbors deemed a little too downmarket for an international superstar (despite the fact that she dropped a whopping $40 million on the place), we'd been wondering what her neighbors thought. Would they welcome her with open arms? Or would they merely be dismayed that her presence would also cause a swarm of unwanted paparazzi? Did they have advice for her? Or would they just shout her song lyrics at her as she walked by with her bodyguards? Naturally, we sent Tim Murphy to find out.

Madonna’s hot, again

Times

The Mail’s campaign against womankind has hit a new peak in its coverage of Madonna’s not-horrible desire to adopt a Malawian child, Mercy. On Monday, Madonna attended a high-profile fashion event in New York, wearing an amusingly silly couture outfit by Louis Vuitton. “Is that really a suitable dress for someone trying to win an adoption case, Madonna?” screeched the Mail. “She wore an outfit that breached the limits of vulgarity, and displayed her typically arrogant thinking.” The Mail seemed to believe that the items of clothing automatically made her unfit for motherhood. Back in Malawi, Mercy’s biological father — who emerged at the exact point that a multimillionairess announced she wanted to adopt the child — commented: “I don’t think Madonna . . . portrays good morals. In Malawi, women respect themselves. Cultured women do not go about half-naked. Spare my Mercy that scandal.” Conventional Wisdom feels discomfited living in a country where the views of one of the biggest-selling newspapers accord with those of an ill-educated Malawian security guard who abandoned his unborn child and its mother the moment he learnt of the pregnancy. Still, the magazine’s nice and glossy, isn’t it?

He doesn't have a hole in his swing, but Alex Rodriguez might have had a hole in his heart vacated after his relationship with Madonna fizzled last year, according to the author of a salicious new biography about the three-time MVP.

"He fell in love with Madonna," Sports Illustrated writer Selena Roberts told Fox And Friends Tuesday. "It changed his entire life -- he went from a family man to Madonna's boyfriend."

Roberts said the third baseman's infatuation with the singer was based on a longtime admiration he had for her and her music as a kid growing up in South Florida.

The book, which hit stores Monday, also chronicles the slugger's alleged longtime use of steroids and insatiable sexual appetite.

The Material Mom turned maternal toward another guest, Rihanna. A BZ spy overheard Rihanna seeking advice from Madonna on dealing with fame. The young R&B star asked the older superstar when ''things might die down'' after the firestorm of paparazzi and tabloid frenzy she's experienced in wake of her alleged beating at the hands of Chris Brown.

''Never,'' said Madonna without missing a beat. ''Unless you decide to give up you career and retire to a remote island someplace. ... Once you're in their sights, you're stuck with the [plural expletive].''

Lady Gaga 'Humbled' By Madonna Coming To Her Show

MTV

Queen of Pop brought daughter Lourdes to singer's New York concert.

If you think that Lady Gaga has gotten used to being a pop superstar, think again. No one was as surprised as the New York City native herself to see that the Queen of Pop, Madonna, took some time out of her busy schedule to catch the "Poker Face" singer's show at New York's Terminal 5

on Saturday.

"I was very humbled that Madonna came to the show," Gaga told MTV News on Monday. "And I had been hearing all week that she was going to come, and I was like, 'Oh, OK,' and I didn't want to talk about it or tell anyone 'cause I thought it was kind that she would want to come at all."

What made it even more surprising for Gaga was that she didn't think Madonna had any idea who she was, despite her hit songs and performance on "American Idol" earlier this season. But what really pleased the singer was seeing that Madge made her concert a family night.

"I was really excited to see that [Madonna's daughter] Lourdes was there, and that made me really happy 'cause during the show I noticed some beautiful spirit of a girl dancing," she recalled. "And I didn't know who it was and I just kept waving to her."

It wasn't until the set was over that she learned that the girl was Madonna's daughter. "Then when the show was over, I said, 'Oh, there's this sweet, young girl up there, and she was dancing her pants off.' And someone said, 'Lourdes had green pants on.' And I was like, 'Oh my God, it was Lourdes and she was dancing.' It really got me going. [Madonna's] a good mom, so it's nice."

Gaga will also be happy to hear that the legendary singer slipped out unnoticed. "I was hoping and praying she would get out safely," she said. "If she got spotted she would have been trampled like the queen she is."

Tori Amos gets what Madonna is about

You worked with Christian Lamb, who filmed Madonna’s last tour, on the visualettes.
It took us a year and a half to film this stuff and I’d I get a call from him and he’d say, “I’m going to be filming with Madonna here, can you fly in?” And I’d find myself scheduling my life around Miss Thing -- without her even knowing it, of course. And I’m sitting there and the husband is saying, “Where are you going?” And I said, “I don’t know! Where’s Madonna?” And he said, “You’re not serious!” And I said, “I am serious!”

[Laughing] Did you hang out with her?
Of course not! No! No! No! Two lionesses, different parts of the Serengeti. And it’s fine -- I have great respect for her and her work ethic and what she does -- I do. But I remember this little artist who has sold many records herself coming up to me and she said, “I went up to Madonna and I told her how much she meant to me.” She’s sitting there confessing this to me a couple of years ago and I’m thinking Stupid!

Why would she do that? Why? Why!
Why! And I’ve become like Mother Confessor and she’s sitting there with me in the British Airways first class lounge and I’m thinking how the fuck did I end up with this while she’s having a hang-over and she says, “I just have to tell you…so I say to Madonna, ‘You have meant so much to me and to my career…’” And I’m just waiting for it and she says, “Madonna just looks at my shoes and says, ‘Those are so last season.’”

[Laughs]
And I said, “But why did you go to her with no self-worth?” Because she’s going to hate that! “If you really have been influenced by her, so-and-so,” I said, “Then look in the mirror and be the gorgeous women you are! You don’t need the approval.” And come on -- Madonna’s going to smell the blood.

She’s ready to lap it up.
And I said, “You set yourself up for that one.” And this singer said, “But I just didn’t know why it was necessary for her to respond like that.” And I told her, “It wasn’t necessary but you set yourself up. Take some responsibility!” Tongue up the ass – it’s just so boring.

Thoughts on Madonna’s Ingenious Met-Gala Outfit

NY Magazine

Models, shmodels. Last night's Costume Institute Gala, as many papers this morning would have you believe, was all about Madonna. Screw the vintage Scavullo photographs of Lauren Hutton, screw Brooke Shields's infamous Calvins from the eighties, screw Gisele in her fabric scrap of a minidress, but most of all, screw Kate Moss's turban. None of those things matter when Madonna shows up looking like a cleaning lady moonlighting as a stripper who washed her Xanax down with one too many margaritas before she changed outfits. And it was a genius, if not very attractive, fashion moment for her and Marc Jacobs, who designed the Louis Vuitton ensemble. Because on a night dedicated to the world's most beautiful women, no one — especially a non-model — could win by trying to look the most beautiful. So looking a bit drunk before you actually got drunk wasn't a bad way to steal attention from Kate Moss and her paltry headpiece. And she got plenty of attention. Here's what some other news outlets thought of Madonna's very special ensemble.

• The L.A. Times thought Madge looked "ready for Neverland ... like the love child of Tinkerbell and Captain Hook." The paper asks if Madonna's hat was wackier than the one Sarah Jessica Parker wore to the Sex and the City movie premiere in London. We'd say so, but what say you? [Dish Rag/LAT]

• The London Times said the ball "ensured many new entries into the best and worst-dressed celebrity lists," and cited Madonna as the "worst offender." Her bunny ears made her "look more like a glamorous cleaning lady than a fashion icon." [Times UK]

• British Marie Claire noted without comment that Madonna's outfit "brought out her 80s side," and suggested the pop star used it as a distraction from the difficulty she's having adopting Mercy James from Malawi. The magazine also notes that Jesus Luz, who attended as Madge's date, looked "super suave." [British Marie Claire]

• The Insider writes that many "what the hell were they thinking" looks walked the carpet last night. AndrĂ© Leon Talley's was the worst, but Madonna looked no less ridiculous, they argue, in her "Alice in Wonderland Louis Vuitton mess." [Insider]

• The Daily Mail proclaims Madonna, Rihanna, and Stella McCartney the worst fashion disasters of the night. "[Madonna]'s bizarre mini-puffball outfit, thigh-high dominatrix style boots and starched fabric headdress from Louis Vuitton's Autumn/Winter 2009 collection saw her veer into the realms of pantomime as she looked less like a Material Girl and more like a bonfide A-list fashion disaster." Surprisingly, this paper was one of the few that still noticed Madonna's "rippling muscles." And some of us still remember Madonna as the original First Arms. [Daily Mail]

"Vogue" - Sticky & Sweet Tour DVD Preview!

Quick Updates!

* Page Six: "IT'S officially the off-season for Sean Avery. The oft-penalized puckster, who was benched by the Rangers for Game 5 of their seven-game defeat to the Caps, was smoking cigarettes the other night with Catherine Keener and a gaggle of groupies in the Meatpacking District on his way to Daphne Guinness' birthday party for photographer Steven Klein at the new Standard Hotel. "He was wearing a tight black shirt, thick glasses and wide-legged swishy black pants," laughs a spy. "He looked ridiculous." Also in attendance at the party were Madonna and boy toy Jesus Luz, Ingrid Sischy, and Avery's ex Kelly Klein."

* M did take Jesus to the to the fashion gala Monday night, just not to the red carpet.

Leeds trio change their names in honour of Madonna

Yorkshire Evening Post

from the left are Lianne Dawson, Gemma Mitchell and Emma Dawson
from the left are Lianne Dawson, Gemma Mitchell and Emma Dawson
DON'T bother asking this trio of pop fans Who's That Girl, because you'll get the same answer – Madonna!
The west Leeds lasses are so Hung Up on the queen of pop that they have all changed their names in homage to the star.

Yes, to most people she may be the Beautiful Stranger who's always in Vogue, but to these Wortley ladies, Madonna is everything.

And to prove it, twins Lianne and Emma Dawson are now officially called 'Lianne Madonna Vogue On The Cover Of A Magazine McHale Dawson', and 'Emma Madonna Confessions On A Dance Floor McHale Dawson.'

And their best friend has ditched plain old Gemma Mitchell in favour of 'Gemma True Blue Strike A Pose Carroll McHale Dawson Me Me Mitchell.'

The idea might sound Crazy For You, but to these devotees, it's a True Blue statement of admiration.

And the threesome are hoping the wacky stunt will work Like A Prayer and prove they are Madonna's biggest fans. The former Wortley High School pupils, all 23 and best friends since they were teenagers, decided to change their names after Gemma was stumped over what to buy her pals for their recent birthday.

The twins said 'buy us a name' change and the rest is history.

The girls combined various Madonna songs and lyrics as well as their family names and are now bound forever by their passion for the evergreen Material Girl.

"We absolutely love Madonna," Emma said.

"We have been to see her as much as we can and we have got every single album and DVD she has ever made.

"Our mum is not surprised that me and Lianne have decided to change our names by deed poll, but we haven't told our Nan yet.

"Our friend Gemma decided that she would pay for us both to have our names changed, but she loved the idea so much she decided to change her name too.

"We have all had problems changing our names on Facebook, as our new names are simply too long, but we are going to stick with them.

"Most of our friends don't know yet but I don't think they will be too surprised as everyone knows that we are obsessed with Madonna – in a nice way that is!"

The girls hold regular Madonna nights with their friends when they play the singer's DVDs and listen to her songs.

But it's not just her music they are enamoured with.

"She's a fantastic businesswoman and everything she puts her mind to she makes into a success," Gemma said.

The trio are going to see their idol in July in London and Manchester, and they are hoping advance word of their devotional act might reach the star's ears before then.

They are also hoping to use their new found fame to help support the Raising Malawi charity. The poverty-stricken African country is the birthplace of the singer's adopted son David Banda.

Jamie Jackson, chief executive of Legal Deed Service, which the girls used for their £10 name switch, said: "We are always
getting hilarious name changes, but we have never had three Madonna fanatics contact us with such crazy monikers.

"I am sure that the lady herself would be flattered!"

Exhibition of Naked Madonna Photos by Martin Schreiber Take England By Storm!

Art Daily

BRIGHTON.-
In 1979 the as yet unknown 20 year old Madonna posed nude for just $30 for New York photographer Martin Schreiber. Later when she had become a global icon the shots appeared in Playboy, catapulting Schreiber to fame. 30 years on the original photographs are on show in the UK exclusively from the Impure Art Gallery.

The Private View opening party had to be spread over three nights due to the high demand. They were a huge success, which far exceeded the small gallery’s expectations. Jamie McCartney of Impure Art – “We sold a lot of prints, it was unbelievable. One of the editions is now up to 8 of 25. There are two collectors enquiring about the entire series of 34 photos, which is fantastic.”

At print number 8 the price rises and again at 14 and at 21. Clever investors are buying the prints before the first seven of each are sold. Now is a great time to buy before the exhibition moves to London in July. With more exhibitions planned this year in Turkey, Russia and the USA, it’s just a matter of time before the photos sell out.

The series of black and white photographs of Madonna show her as the exceptionally beautiful young woman she was. Modelling to pay her way through dance school, her toned body, perfect breasts, great skin, luxuriant pubic hair and mop of curls were a draw for several photographers. The languid, innocent look in her eyes betrays nothing of the pop superstar and business genius she was to become.

A similar Lee Friedlander photograph of Madonna from the same year recently sold at auction for $37,500. Schreiber’s photographs are seen as more classy and with growing interest in his work by collectors these prints could be an excellent investment with prices starting at only £1600 for the smaller sized 1985 edition and £3400 for the 60X40cm 30th anniversary edition.

Schreiber began working freelance for the New York Times and in 1971 was a runner up in the first Life Magazine photography contest. This was the start of a brilliant career. In 1977 he began teaching a course on photographing the nude and his first book entitled “Bodyscapes” was published in 1980.

In 1985 though Schreiber got the lucky break artists dream of. Madonna was on the cover of Time magazine. He dug out his nude photos of the former model and brief girlfriend and sold them to Playboy. They appeared amidst much controversy in the September 1985 issue.

The original 1985 prints were exhibited a few times in the USA and Europe but have since gathered dust at Schreiber’s French home as he concentrated on other projects. Persuaded to exhibit the series again for the 30th anniversary, he released this new edition of larger size prints, which have attracted so much attention.

Jamie McCartney of Impure Art – “When you have wonderful nude photos of a beautiful young woman, taken by a great photographer and she just happens to be a global icon, it’s a no brainer, the show is going to sell out.”

IMPURE ART is the UK’s only permanent, commercial, erotic art gallery. Established only a year ago and dealing in art broadly described as ‘anything from nude to rude’ it has fast acquired a reputation for daring and exciting shows of extremely high quality. The gallery, in Brighton’s famous Lanes, represents over 100 artists, sculptors and photographers.

The Madonna Nudes features as part the Brighton Festival Fringe and runs until June 28

M and Lourdes on Lady GaGa's show

NY Daily News

Madonna, her daughter Lourdes and photographers Steven Klein and David LaChappelle all put on their “Poker Faces” to catch Lady GaGa’s show at N.Y.C.’s Terminal 5 on Saturday night.

Since the two performers have an affinity for elaborate outfits and stage production, it was no surprise “Madonna loved Gaga’s show,” said our wintess. “Especially when Gaga played “Future Love” on the piano. Lourdes was singing along to every word.”

At the end of Gaga’s set, the out-there singer was presented with a gold record for her current album “The Fame.” After thanking the audience and her label, she then thanked her “amazing” opening band, Semi Precious Weapons.

But Madge and Lourdes missed that. They left halfway through the show —”probably because Gaga went on late, around 1 a.m., and Madge is a good mom!” — says our source. Other celebs continued on to Bungalow 8 for the after-party, where Kanye West tried to keep a low profile. “He was very weird about people knowing he was there. He didn’t seem to want anyone to know he was out,” snitches an insider. Maybe he should’ve “Just Dance(d)”!

Family in Madonna Adoption Case 'Laugh Off' Dad's Plea

People Magazine

As the hearing on Madonna's adoption appeal gets under way in Malawi, the family of the girl at the center of the controversy – 4-year-old Mercy Chifundo James – rejected efforts by the child's apparent biological father to claim her.

"He said he wanted to make peace with us. He said he wanted to be allowed to take care of his child, but we laughed him off. Where was he all this time?" said one of Mercy's uncles, Peter Baneti.

The father, James Kambewa, visited the girl's clan Saturday in the mud-and-thatch village outpost of Zaone, in the eastern district of Zomba. He was accompanied by his aunt, a man and another woman, the uncle said.

Baneti had signed the adoption papers that would have allowed Madonna to call Mercy her daughter, but the southern African country's High Court rejected the pop singer's efforts. On Monday, Madonna's appeal was adjourned until 1 p.m. local time because John Gulumba, a lawyer appointed by Eye of the Child – a child-rights organization that is against the adoption – filed his court papers late.

'Has No Case'

On Saturday, Kambewa brought his concerns to the family's village, but, according to Baneti, a local chief said "James has no case since if he wanted to have anything to do with the child he should have been there even after his girlfriend died."

In an interview airing Monday on CBS's The Early Show, Kambewa said he is "capable of taking care of my baby" and that Mercy needs "to grow as a Malawian ... with our culture."

Mercy, whose teenage mother died after her birth, is living at Kondanani Children's Village in the town of Bvumbwe. Madonna first met her in October 2006, the same time she found son David Banda at a different orphanage.

Kambewa , who has said he's ready to undergo a paternity test, is scheduled to meet a lawyer from the Malawi Law Society on Monday, said Mercy Mulele, the law group's secretary general. Eye of the Child, a child-rights non-governmental organization, also wants to weigh in.

But Baneti holds strong in his belief that Kambewa has no place in Mercy's life. He told PEOPLE: "This boy is a joker and we told his delegation never to waste our time again."

Madonna adoption case heard amid paternity dispute

AP via Yahoo!

BLANTYRE, Malawi – Malawi's highest court began deliberating on Madonna's bid to adopt a 3-year-old girl from the southern African country, as a dispute erupted over whether a man trying to stop the proceedings is the girl's father.

Madonna was not at Monday's closed-door hearing at the Malawi Supreme Court of Appeal, and a ruling may not be announced for several days.

The 50-year-old pop star is fighting a lower court's decision that she cannot adopt Chifundo "Mercy" James because she had not been screened over time by Malawi authorities. The court said the rules were bent when Madonna adopted her son David from Malawi last year.

Madonna's Malawian lawyer Alan Chinula said he was "hopeful" the appeal would succeed, and argued the lower court had relied on outdated law to block the girl's adoption.

Madonna found the girl in 2006 at Kondanani Children's Village, an orphanage in the southern town of Bvumbwe just south of the commercial capital of Blantyre. It was the same year she adopted David, whom she found at another orphanage in the central Mchinji district.

On Sunday, a man told The Associated Press he was the girl's father, and has sought help from the Malawi Law Society to stop the adoption.

James Kambewa, a 24-year-old a security guard, acknowledged he has never seen the child, who according to court documents was placed in the orphanage when her 14-year-old mother died a few weeks after giving birth to her.

But Kambewa said he now wanted to claim custody of Chifundo.

"I may be poor, but I think I have what it takes to raise a daughter," he said. "I will fight the adoption."

The brother of the girl's mother told the AP the family does not know Kambewa.

"How can he claim he is the father when he hasn't been around all this time?" said Peter Baneti, who explained that the girl was put in the orphanage because there was no one to breast-feed the baby.

Baneti said he had agreed to the adoption on behalf of the family, and that Kambewa was "just an opportunist."

Madonna spokeswoman Liz Rosenberg said in an e-mail message she doesn't know if Kambewa is the father.

"All I know is that Mercy has been in an orphanage since the day she was born," Rosenberg said.

Kambewa, in an interview to be aired Monday on CBS' "The Early Show," said he has only seen the girl "in newspapers and TV — not face to face." But he told CBS the girl "is a Malawian — so (I) need her to grow as a Malawian as well with our culture."

On the show, Kambewa wore a necklace bearing the girl's name.

Madonna has founded a charity, Raising Malawi, that helps feed, educate and provide medical care for some of Malawi's more than 1 million orphans, half of whom have lost parents to AIDS.

Nude Madonna pics go on show

ITN via Yahoo!

Pictures of a nude Madonna taken as an unknown 20-year-old have gone on display.

The snaps were taken in 1979 by photographer Martin Schreiber before she maDe her name as a singer.

He described the struggling, fledgling star as having "a fantastic body. Perfect."

Madonna, who was doing some part-time modelling to pay her way through dance school, was paid $30 for the shoot.

Schreiber added: "She was pliant but I would say very quiet, maybe shy I'm not sure.

"I use the word taciturn, kind of moody, I felt. Not really into it but she was doing it. She was making a living doing it."

Schreiber claims the pair became lovers after Madonna, with little money and few friends, moved into his flat for two weeks.

The photographs of the young Madonna are part of the Brighton Festival Fringe and are on sale for £3,400.

The Naked Madonna Playboy Photos 30th Anniversary Exhibition ends on June 28.

Jesus Luz Won’t Appear in the Louis Vuitton Campaign, Enjoys Dinner Dates With Marc Jacobs’s FiancĂ©

NY Magazine

Contrary to rumor, Jesus Luz won't appear in Louis Vuitton's fall 2009 ad campaign with Madonna, Vuitton designer Marc Jacobs told us at Cipriani Wall Street during the 2009 Parsons Fashion Spring Benefit last night. (Okay, sometimes we get things wrong.) Reporters routinely hound Jacobs with questions about Madonna’s man candy. “I don’t know why!” he said, laughing. “Why is everyone asking me about him? He’s not modeling for me. I don’t do menswear.” Madonna, however, is, and Jacobs said they’d just been working together that day. “I think it was a great shoot,” he said. “She’s the ultimate professional and she and Steven are amazing. I love working with her. There’s no one better.” He refused to divulge the concept of the campaign.

But if Jesus hasn’t yet earned a spot in a Vuitton campaign, he has earned a place as good friend to Jacobs and his fiancĂ©, Lorenzo Martone. “We’re friends and we have dinner sometimes,” said Martone. “I guess as a Brazilian that’s in New York and is in this industry, I have some hints and advice to give. You know, he’s starting a very big modeling career and he has a lot of potential. So he asks me my opinion about some people in the industry — photographers and that. And I tell him.” Where do these advice-giving sessions take place? The Waverly Inn, of course. “We don’t really have a hangout,” said Martone. “We’ve been having a lot of dinners at the Waverly or other places in the West Village on our street. I’m trying to get him to know downtown, which is younger and fresher than the Upper West Side.”

At the Parsons Fashion Benefit last night, alum Marc Jacobs was in high spirits, and not only because he's eagerly awaiting Monday night's Costume Institute gala, which he will host alongside muse Kate Moss. As for his illustrious table? It's going to be full of good friends. "Madonna...Victoria Beckham...I'm trying to think, now I can't remember!" Jacobs told The Daily. "Anne Hathaway...Winona [Ryder]...Rachel Feinstein, John Currin...and Rihanna!"

Hugh Jackman: You don’t adopt for publicity; Madonna’s coming from a good place

The Sun

HUGH JACKMAN has sent a message of support to Madonna after her failed bid to adopt a Malawian orphan.

The Aussie movie star and his wife, DEBORRA-LEE, have two kids who they adopted as babies from America — Oscar, eight, and three-year-old Ava.

But, like MADONNA, their hopes of giving a home to a Third World child were crushed by rules that made it virtually impossible to adopt from Africa or Asia.

Speaking exclusively to The Sun, Hugh — who hit cinema screens this week as razor-clawed X-Men character Wolverine — said: “The adoption laws in Australia are too restrictive. Of course, checks need to be made. But they had a very negative approach.

“It was like they were trying to discourage you. There are 130million orphans in the world — who is looking after them? If you are a citizen of the world, on some level they are all our responsibility.

“And if you have got parents who want to adopt and there are children who need a home, it seems like a no-brainer.

“There are not that many children in Australia who need adopting, so we looked internationally and that is what is difficult.”

The couple turned to adoption after actress Deborra-Lee, 48, suffered repeat miscarriages.

But they insist they would have done it regardless.

Hugh, 40, said: “We tried and it just didn’t happen for us. There was no particular medical reason.

“We had a few miscarriages, which was very upsetting. But we always planned on adopting anyway, even if we had our own biological children.”

The actor can well understand Madonna’s desire to add to her brood — Lourdes, 12, Rocco, eight, and three-year-old David Banda, who she adopted from Malawi in 2006.

And he is sickened by cynics who applauded an African judge’s decision to reject her bid to become mum to baby girl Mercy James earlier this month.

Hugh said: “I challenge anyone who thinks you adopt a kid for a publicity stunt. Anyone parent knows that would have to be the most intensive publicity stunt in the world. I am sure she is coming from a good place.”

However, unlike the pop queen, Hugh has no plans to expand his family.

Laughing, he continued: “We think about another adoption. Then every time we get on a plane with our two kids and are all crammed in together, we think maybe we will leave it at what we have.

“Our first child was not the easiest of babies, which is why we left it five years before the second. Our second was a dream baby.”
