Madonna’s Oscar-night fete at the home of her manager, Guy Oseary, co-hosted with Demi Moore, was a big success. When I asked her for the ingredient that makes hosting duties fun, Madonna said, “We were trying to have a real dance party, not a corporate affair!” (Darlings, Madonna has never had a “corporate” affair. It’s always very personal.)

La Ciccone elaborated: “Great music is the secret — and an open bar! By the end of the night, most of the ladies in couture were dancing barefoot.” Well, I saw Madonna dance on a tabletop in four-inch heels the night she won her first Grammy. Barefoot carousing ain’t so much. When I reminded Madonna of this, she said, rather primly, “I was very happy that night, Liz.”

There were no cameras at M and Mrs. Kutcher’s Oscar party, no barricaded press walls, just Demi and her hubby, Ashton, “twittering.” I guess they were alerting fans — we’re here, and you’re not! Madonna doesn’t twitter her fans. She knows they know she thinks they should live their own lives, and not be so concerned with her. (Until she tours again.)

I’m glad Madonna had fun; she always does when she dances. But I’d like to have seen her onstage at the Kodak Theater Oscar night. Why not? She has had more successful movies than her legend of flops would suggest, and twice performed memorably on the telecast. (Many fans consider her 1990 Oscar-night rendition of Sondheim’s “Sooner or Later” to be her best live television performance and her peak moment of glamour.



Madonna made more money in concert last year than anybody else, male or female. She’s a star. Once upon a time — about 25 years ago — I questioned this. I came to see the error of my skepticism. Oscar could have used a shot of Ciccone.

Nicole Kidman was manning the door and helping to take guests' coats and shawls.

Sharon Stone was chowing down on onion bhajis, while Cameron Diaz was mopping up the vegetarian curry with naan bread.

There was a definite Slumdog Millionaire theme at the late-night, post-Oscar party Madonna threw with Demi Moore at the mansion owned by Madge's manager, Guy Oseary.

Spread out in the kitchen were traditional Indian dishes including chicken tikka masala and various biryanis.

There were other goodies, too. One guest even jokingly (I hope) asked for a deepfried Mars bar. I gather he had once spent a drunken night in Glasgow and claimed to have tasted the Scottish delicacy.

Sean 'Diddy' Combs was the DJ and MC. When best supporting actress Oscar winner Penelope Cruz sashayed in, he announced: 'Penel-o-p-e Cruuuz is in the house!'

Most people party-hopped from the Vanity Fair bash and Elton John's charity event to end up at Madge's, where the tennis courts had been covered over and topped with a marquee. Sofas and chairs were provided for the weary to rest themselves on.

And there were plenty of mints in little bowls, for those who didn't want early morning curry breath.

And who was Madonna kissing? Jesus Luz, her 22-year-old Brazilian rumored-to-be boy toy.

Moore hubby Ashton Kutcher Twittered about the Jeffrey Best-produced celebrity extravaganza, which took place under a temporary atrium adjacent to the house that was lit by chandeliers. "Coolest moment of the night…Meeting Jack [Nicholson] holding penelopes oscar and watching Joe Pesci send back 3 martinis because they were sub par," he posted at about 4 a.m.

Diddy's night apparently ended quite well. "I'm holding an oscar rt now and takin a bubble bath!!!!" he Twittered this morning. "God is great!!!"

Small update (coming from The Daily News): At her own post-Oscars fete, Her Madgesty spent an hour dancing up a storm with the 22-year-old Brazilian model during Diddy’s surprise deejay set.

Madonna and Moore Teaming Up Again for Oscars

Move over, Vanity Fair.

Madonna and Demi Moore are on their way to becoming the new queens of Oscar night.

I just got word that the two Hollywood sirens will, as they did last year, cohost a party with Guy Oseary at Oseary's L.A.-area home after this year's awards ceremony on Feb. 22.

Among the guests at last year's soiree were Tom Cruise, Katie Holmes, Ellen DeGeneres, Portia de Rossi, Cameron Diaz, Orlando Bloom and even Sir Elton John and his husband, David Furnish, who made their way there after hosting their annual AIDS fundraiser.

Madonna and Moore's guest list will again be invite-only. Hopefully, Moore and hubby Ashton Kutcher will convince Madonna to twitter from the party.

Meanwhile, Sir Elton's 17th annual Oscar benefit for his AIDS foundation will feature a performance by Grammy nominee Raphael Saadiq.

"I won't believe it's happened until it's happened," Saadiq told me the other day. "It's unbelievable."

Vanity Fair will return after taking a break last year because of the writers' strike. Editor-in-chief Graydon Carter and his crew have already said things will be scaled back from years past. Taking place for the first time at Jeff Klein's Sunset Tower hotel, Vanity Fair peeps insist it will be smaller and more intimate than in years past and will use recycled décor to help save money and the environment.
